Soup Day offers a time to share meal, help others

Area residents had the opportunity to share a table and some good home cooking at the Alpha Lions Club’s annual Soup Day Monday.

For a few hours, the State Room on East Cherokee Street became the town dining room, as it does for various club fundraisers each year. These community meals are a pleasurable occurrence, and the opportunity to donate to a good cause just adds to the camaraderie.

Held on the fourth Monday of each January, Soup Day, along with an annual fish day lunch, helps the Alpha Lions raise funds to provide glasses and hearing aids for those in need each year. The fundraisers also help with diabetes projects that the club supports.

Lincoln County, like all of Mississippi and the South, is rich with service groups and other charitable organizations. We express appreciation to the Alpha Lions and to all of those who go about making our region a better place to live and raise our families.
