Amite Co. sacks Enterprise girls

FOXWORTH – The Amite County Lady Trojans used their size and depth to thump the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets 57-23 Thursday night in Region 7-2A tournament action at East Marion Gymnasium.
In the other girls game, the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets stung the Wesson Lady Cobras 64-27.
The Lady Jackets (14-16) resume action today. They battle their archrivals, the Wesson Lady Cobras, in the consolation game. Tipoff is 4 p.m.
Bassfield and Amite County will tangle for the region championship at 7 p.m.
Amite Co. 57, Enterprise 23
The Lady Jackets and Lady Trojans battled back-and-forth in a close ball game in the first quarter as Amite County led11-9.
In the second quarter, the Lady Trojans (20-7) managed to overcome their sluggish start. Their offense caught fire and drilled Enterprise for a 30-17 lead at halftime.
Senior center Veonka Sanders was the offensive leader for the Lady Jackets with 9 points. Meagan Rippy contributed 6 points.
“We did not come ready to play,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “We had a tough night shooting the ball and rebounding. We need to come ready to do a better job in the consolation game.”
BreAshlee Jones pumped in a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Trojans. LaMisheon Woodside netted 11 points.
“Glad to get the win,” said Amite County coach Marcus Flippin. “The girls did a good job after knocking off the rust and did the things needed to get the win. We are excited to be in Friday’s championship and to be able to host a Monday night game.”
