Lincoln County Superintendent Terry Brister is ready to turn his eye toward Loyd Star and bring some infrastructure improvements to the attendance center there.

At Monday’s board meeting of the Lincoln County School District, Brister briefed trustees on upcoming renovations.

“I’m not going to ignore the other schools, but Loyd Star is where I’m looking next,” he said.

Brister said the Loyd Star Attendance Center gymnasium will be renovated and new dressing rooms added.

That comes on the heels of construction of new gymnasiums at the Enterprise and Bogue Chitto schools. That construction is nearing completion.

The West Lincoln gym has also been revamped, Brister said.

The superintendent sought and was granted authority by the school board to advertise and solicit bids and seek quotes for renovation work as required.

The board consented unanimously, with Kay Coon absent.

In other business, Letha Presley, who runs the school’s special education programs, presented board members with proposed changes to the school’s policies for limited English students and homeless students.

The changes were primarily to comply with regulations, officials said.

Presley also offered some explanation as to the nature of the district’s homeless students. That designation could include children in foster homes or living with relatives such as grandparents.

“It’s not living in a box,” she said.

Apparently, the school has seen an upswing in such students.
