Law enforcement officers serving an indictment Monday stumbled upon a cache of drugs, guns and money, a discovery that yielded additional new charges beyond the indictment, said Sheriff Steve Rushing.
Agents with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Southwest Narcotics served an indictment about 4 p.m. Monday to Terrence Peyton, 40, on 530 Fern Lane, Lot 3, Rushing said.
The indictment on drug sale charges offered a preview of what law enforcement allegedly discovered at Peyton’s residence.
“In the course of making the arrest on the indictment, they discovered what appears to be drugs,” Rushing said. “A subsequent search found the money and firearms and more drugs.”
The drugs allegedly included marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamines.
An AR-15 rifle allegedly stolen from a Lincoln County home during a January burglary and $17,000 cash rounded out what law enforcement officials report to have recovered from the residence.
A handgun that thus far doesn’t appear stolen was also found, Rushing said.
Terrence Peyton and his wife, Denise Peyton, 28, have both been charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and four counts of conspiracy to distribute.
Terrence Peyton also stands charged with the original indictment on drug sale charges.
The two were arrested without incident, Rushing said. No one else lived at the Fern Lane residence.
As of Tuesday morning, no bond has been set and the pair remains in jail.
