Piney Woods eases past Loyd Star

Piney Woods won a second set tiebreaker in mixed doubles and escaped Loyd Star with a 4-3 Monday tennis victory on Brookhaven’s City Courts. Sasha Clayborn and Tsbgberata Esatu defeated Loyd Star’s Maggie Redd and Scott Barras 7-6, 7-6, (7-4).

Loyd Star got a 6-3, 6-1 win from Natalie Smith in girls singles. The Hornets also won in No. 1 girls doubles as Kaylee Grace Yarborough and Faith Bergeron prevailed and in No.2 girls doubles, featuring Julie Kramer and Ashlyn Locke.

Loyd Star, coached by Rhonda Hart, resumes play Thursday, hosting the Franklin County Bulldogs. Match time is 4 p.m. on the City Courts.
