Co-Lin conquers Kellogg, East Miss.

WESSON – Freshman Shane McKinley pitched six shutout innings to lead the Co-Lin Wolfpack to a 4-0 Wednesday win over the Kellogg (Mich.) Community College Bruins. In the nightcap, the Wolfpack edged the East Mississippi Lions 2-1 on Sullivan Field.

The Wolfpack broke open the scoreless game on a two-run double to center field by Caleb Dugas and a wild pitch. The built upon their lead with two runs in the fifth. A double to right field by catcher Jonathan Santana drove Dugas home. That was followed up by Matt Smith’s RBI single , that plated Kyle Cross.

McKinley, 5-11 left-hander from Tylertown (Parklane), scattered four hits, struck out six and walked 1 to get his second win of the season. Casey Hurley who relieved McKinley in the seventh, allowed two hits and walked none in 1.2 innings.

Absorbing the loss was Dirk Oremsby who allowed four runs (2 earned) on eight hits, struck out two and walked none.

Dugas sparked the Wolfpack at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double and a single and 1 RBI. Cole Page singled twice. Santana doubled for 1 RBI. Adding support were Milton Griffin, Will Gatlin and Smith (1 RBI).

Leading the Bruins at the plate was Kody Carson with a double. Trent Pell, Drew Carlile, Tanner McCarn, Jake Miller and Jon Timmerman added a single apiece.

Co-Lin 2, East Miss. 1

With the scored tied at 1-all in the bottom of the sixth inning, Cole Page delivered an RBI single to right field that brought home Caleb Dugas for the winning run.

Co-Lin scored the first run in the first inning. With no outs, Philip Lott and Gabe Wilson reached on back-to-back errors. The runners advanced on Caleb Dugas’s grounder. Matt Smith’s grounder to second scored Lott.

East Mississippi’s lone run of the ballgame came in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Philip Tice.

Gage Miles got the win in relief for the Wolfpack. Miles pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits, striking out two and walking one.

Taking the loss was Dillon Hawkins who allowed 2 runs (1 earned) run on two hits, walked two and truck out three.

At the plate, Gabe Wilson doubled and Cole Page singled for the Wolfpack.

Tyler Odom had a pair of singles for the Lions. Cole Cavener and Tice added support with a single apiece.

The Wolfpack will host St. Louis Merrimac (MO) for a 9-inning game on Friday beginning at 6 p.m.
