Streaking Wesson buries Franklin Co.

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras are riding a six-game winning streak after defeating the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 15-0 Friday night in softball action.

“It is good to get the win,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “The girls played really well and hit the ball. Overall, we need to continue working hard to get better.”

The Lady Cobras (6-1) will have the week off to enjoy spring break before returning to action Saturday and host the McComb Lady Tigers. Junior varsity action is set to start at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity game at noon.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-6-1) resumes action Thursday. They visit Meridian to participate in the Meridian’s three-day Invitational Softball Tournament.

Wesson 15, Franklin Co 0

The Lady Cobras quickly took care of business as they shut out the Lady Bulldogs in the three innings of work.

Wesson exploded in the second inning with 9-runs and ended the game in the third inning by pushing across 6-runs to force the 15-run mercy rule.

Senior Abbey Smith showcased a strong pitching performance for the Lady Cobras collecting four strikeouts and allowed no walks.

First baseman Taylor Smith sparked the Lady Cobras with a triple and a single. Macie McQuage fueled the flames with two singles. Hanna Brown ripped a double. Hitting safely were Cheyenne Gladden, Hailey Chassion, Ashley Newman, Sarah Robinson and Abbey Smith.

Franklin County was led offensively by singles by Courtney Hauer and Macy Brabham.

The Lady Bulldogs are coached by Dana Smith.

In JV action, Wesson destroyed Franklin County 8-3.

Gladden was the offensive leader for the Lady Cobras with a triple and a single. Brooke Page contributed two singles. Mary Beth Munn and Sabria Green provided a double each. Harmoni Ashley and Anna Speights hit safely.

Haley McDaniel directed the Lady Bulldogs with a triple. Hitting safely were Sophie Cothren, Nuda Starks, Tabitha Thompson and Mckenzie Whitehead.
