Loyd Star’s Lady Hornets shut out East Marion 17-0 in Region 6-2A softball action. Winning pitcher Kelsie McCullough tossed a 1-hitter in the 5-inning game, striking out 8 batters and walking none.

Coach Jan Delaughter’s Lady Hornets (6-5, 1-0) play at Lawrence County Friday. Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

At the plate, Hailey Smith’s inside-the-park homer paced Loyd Star. Raigin Smith also homered and drove in 2 runs. McCullough accounted for 3 hits and 3 RBI. Lexie Butler collected 2 hits.

Loyd Star shut out the Lady Eagles 11-0 in the JV game., Ali Gartman hurled the shutout.

The Lady Hornets (4-0) got singles from Bella Wheelre, Megan Norton, Lesley Walker and Brooks Rushing.
