Co-Lin Wolfpack salvage split with Pearl River

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolfpack managed to split a Saturday South Division doubleheader with the No. 8-ranked Pearl River Community College Wildcats. Pearl River won the opener 6-4 but Coach Keith Case’s Co-Lin squad squeezed past the Wildcats 10-9 in the nightcap on Sullivan Field.

Co-Lin (13-8, 3-1) and Pearl River (17-6, 3-2) meet again April 9, at Poplarville. It will be a 4 p.m. doubleheader in Wildcat Stadium.

In the meantime, Co-Lin visits Jones County Wednesday for a 4 p.m., South Division twinbill. Pearl River hosts South rival Gulf Coast the same day at 4 p.m.

Pearl River 6, Co-Lin 4

Ryan Deemes (2-2) went five innings and picked up the win. He fanned 3 batters, walked 2 and gave up 10 hits.

Tyler Simmons started for Co-Lin and went 5 innings. He gave up 8 hits, fanned 4 and hit 1 batter.

Casey Hurley replaced Simmons in the sixth. Hurley allowed 2 hits and struck out 1

A home run and 2 singles by Cole Page powered Co-Lin. Jonathan Santana doubled and singled. Milton Griffin and Shane McKinley singled twice.

Co-Lin 10, Pearl River 9

Dominic Savage slugged a 3-run homer and 2-run single in Co-Lin’s 9-run, third-inning explosion.

Tyler Case was the winning pitcher in 2 innings of relief. He fanned 2 batters and gave up 2 hits, helping hold the Wildcats scoreless.

Julio Rivera started for Co-Lin and went 4.2 innings. He gave up 11 hits, struck out 4 and hit 2 batters.

Cameron Reynolds (2-1) was the losing pitcher. In relief of Bradley Rayborn. Jake Brumfield started on the mound and went 2.2 innings.

Co-Lin got 2 hits apiece from Ryan Young and Shane McKinley.

Four hits by Kyle Dolan led the Wildcats in the nightcap.
