LCHS girls sack W. Lincoln

Pitcher Elizabeth Smith scattered six hits and the Lawrence County Lady Cougars defeated West Lincoln’s Lady Bears 11-3 Tuesday night at the Cow Palace. Smith struck out 1 batter and walked 3.

West Lincoln (5-5) resumes play Thursday, visiting Natchez Cathedral for a Region 7-1A test. Action begins with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6.

Lawrence County (12-1, 1-1) invades Tylertown Thursday for Region 6-4A action at 5 and 6 p.m.

“I was very pleased to see us take care of the ball on offense and defense tonight,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “We need to cut out some of our base-running mistakes and I’ll be happy. We must keep working hard to prepare for district.”

Two singles by Lexie Johnson led the Cougars in batting. Alexundria Thomas, Sam Lee, Alyssa Pendergrass and Kristen Byrd singled, helping their team take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. They plated 2 more runs in the fourth and exploded for 6 in the sixth.

Malori Hall (0K, 8BB) was the losing pitcher.

Coach Andrew Redd’s Bears got 3 singles from Bentley Sills. Layton Sills, Micah Redd, Heather Moak and Hall singled.
