LCHS girls top Tylertown

TYLERTOWN – Elizabeth Smith pitched a 4-strikeout, 4-hitter and the Lawrence County Lady Cougars downed Tylertown’s Lady Chiefs 4-2 Thursday in Region 6-4A softball action. Smith did not issue a base on balls in the 7-inning game.

“This was a good win for us,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “Tylertown is a good team and they fought the whole game. My players never gave up and that makes me proud to see that. We must improve our hitting.”

Howard’s girls host West Lincoln today, starting with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m.

The Cougars (13-1, 2-1) collected 4 singles as Kristen Byrd, Alyssa Pendergrass, Alexsundria Thomas and Jamie Martin connected. A 3-run sixth inning gave them a 4-0 lead.

Keely Fortenberry (2K, 1BB) was the losing pitcher. Her team committed 5 errors in the loss.
