St. Aloysius turns back Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO – The St. Aloysius Flashes managed to hold off Bogue Chitto’s late inning rally and prevail 10-4 Thursday night in Region 7-1A baseball action.

“St. Aloysius has a very good ball club,” said BC first-year coach Russ Carter. “We had to earn everything that we got.”

The Bobcats (3-9, 0-2) resumes action Monday. They visit Natchez to battle s region rival, the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7.

St. Aloysius 10, BC 4

The Flashes came out and overpowered the Bobcats in the first three innings of action to take a 7-0 lead.

In the fourth and fifth innings, the Bobcats and Flashes scoref 3 run each as St. Aloysius remained ahead 10-3

Ben Welp was the winning pitcher for St. Aloysius with five strikeouts and three walks.

Welp provided the offensive charge for the Flashes with two doubles and a single. Matt Bell continued with a double and two singles. Matt Foley and Matt Mims contributed a double and a single each. Drake Dolebeck and Will Pierce ripped a pair of singles. Andrew Collins and Lane Hynum hit safely.

“Good win,” said St. Al coach Derrick Boland. “Bogue Chitto did a good job fighting back. I was pleased to see our guys respond to the task. They did the things necessary to get the win. It is always a tough series when we play Bogue Chitto. They never give up and they keep us on our toes.”

The Bobcats pitched a 4-man rotation. Brice Roberts (1K, 1BB) started and suffered the setback for BC. Steven Ginn (1K. 0BB), Garrett Anders (0K, 0BB) and Brock Roberts (4K, 2BB) pitched in relief.

Leftfielder Brooks Ingle directed BC’s offense with three singles. Keith Wells provided a double and a single. Ginn ripped two singles. Hitting safely were Garrett Anders, Shiloh Martin and Brice Roberts.

In JV action, St. Aloysius defeated Bogue Chitto 12-3.
