Lady Bears knock off Bogue Chitto

BOGUE CHITTO – The West Lincoln Lady Bears managed to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot after knocking off the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats 5-1 in Region 7-1A softball action Tuesday night.
“Good win,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We had an all-around good effort in pitching, hitting and fielding. I am very proud to get the victory against a very talented team like Bogue Chitto.”
The Lady Bears (7-7, 1-1) will take a week off before resuming action Tuesday to host the Natchez Cathedral Lady Green Wave. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
The Lady Cats (9-4, 1-1) continue action Thursday. They entertain the Salem Lady Wildcats in a non-divisional contest. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
West Lincoln 5, Bogue Chitto 1
West Lincoln and Bogue Chitto fans gathered to witness an old rivalry as the Lady Bears and Lady Cats battled the cold elements in a huge district test.
In the top of the second inning, West Lincoln managed to break up the scoreless ball game to claim a 2-0 lead. In the third inning, the Lady Bears increased their lead with two more runs for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bogue Chitto’s offense managed to get things going as they loaded the bases and threatened to rally back. West Lincoln fought hard to get out the inning, only allowing one run.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Bears extended their lead by adding an insurance run and held off the Lady Cats for the win.
Sophomore Micah Redd was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears with one strikeout and four walks.
Sophomore third baseman Malori Hall was the offensive leader for West Lincoln with a double and a single. Layton Sills and Heather Moak contributed a double each. Hitting safely were Brianna Fauver, Destiny Allen, Katie Hester and Karley Smith.
“The girls came ready to play,” stated Coach Redd. “We managed to jump out early by scoring some runs and played smart defense.”
Senior Rheagan Welch suffered the setback for Bogue Chitto with one strikeout, one walk and two hit batters.
Freshmen third baseman Alana Nettles paced the Lady Cats at the plate with two singles. Daley Roberts and Adrienne Wallace hit safely.
“West Lincoln was the better team tonight,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “They hit the ball really well and hard. Overall, we just struggled to put something together offensively.”
In JV action, Bogue Chitto blanked West Lincoln 6-0.
Christian Black tossed the win for the Lady Cats with five strikeouts and three walks. Ashley Thomas absorbed the setback for the Lady Bears with three strikeouts and four walks.
Zariah Matthew provided the offensive spark to lead BC with two singles. Brooke Myers fueled the flames with a triple. Kerri McGehee, Reagan Kirkland and Rachel White ripped a single each.
The Lady Bears were led on offense with a single apiece from Peyton White and Millane Lewis.
