The Loyd Star Lady Hornets climbed back into the win column by capturing a big Region win over the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets 10-2 Tuesday night at Enterprise.

The Lady Hornets (9-8, 3-1) will have the week off to rest before returning to action Tuesday and hosting the East Marion Lady Eagles. Junior varsity action kicks off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30.

The Lady Jackets (3-9, 2-2) resume action Thursday. They visit Bassfield to battle the Jefferson Davis County-based Yellowjackets. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

Loyd Star 10, Enterprise 2

Kelsie McCullough was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with one strikeout and one walk.

Haley “Bug” Nations absorbed the setback for the Lady Jackets with four strikeouts and six walks.

Julie Smith and Lexie Butler were the offensive leaders to lead Loyd Star with three singles. Abigail Thornton and Anna Grace Cupit provided a pair of singles. Hannah Smith and Madison Jones hit safely.

Samantha Stewart paced Enterprise’s offense with two singles. Ashley Boyd contributed a double. Hitting safely were Kristen Jergins, Nicole Rutland and Kinsey Dahlin.

In JV action, Loyd Star held off Enterprise for a 8-4 victory.

Ali Gartman tossed the win for the Lady Hornets with five strikeouts and two walks.

Marley Poole led Loyd Star’s offensive charge with two singles. Hitting a single each were Brooks Rushing, Raigan Smith, Megan Norton and Lydia Britt.

Carley Polk led the Lady Jackets at the plate with two singles. Courtney Greer hit a single.
