Loyd Star sweeps Enterprise

The Loyd Star Hornets knocked off the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 9-1 Thursday night to complete the sweep in the Region 7-2A race at Enterprise.

The Hornets (9-3, 4-1) return to action Tuesday. They invade Liberty and battle the Amite County Trojans for a big district test. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30.

The Jackets (9-5, 4-2) will resume play Tuesday. They visit the Wesson Cobras for another huge region contest. Junior varsity action kicks off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

Loyd Star 9, Enterprise 1

The Hornets managed to over powered the Jackets early to claimed a 9-0 lead before Enterprise broke up the scoreless game in the seven inning and scored one run.

Caleb Yarborough showcased his talents on the mound collecting 12 strikeouts and allowed no walks to get Loyd Star the win.

Branden Smith provided the offensive charge to lead the Hornets with two doubles and one single. Cori Crowe contributed three singles. Brett Calcote ripped a pair of singles. Logan Smith had a double and Yarborough singled.

“Caleb Yarborough pitched a great game,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “We managed to put the ball in play and force Enterprise to make the plays. Overall, I am please to get the win, but we need to continue working hard to get better.”

Jackson Cole suffered the setback for Enterprise with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Jackets were led offensively by Braxton Foster, Dylan Smith, Austin Fuller and Hunter Waldrop with a single each.

In JV action, Loyd Star won 10-2 over Enterprise.
