Urges ‘no’ vote on liquor issue

Dear Editor:

My family moved to Brookhaven five years ago. I was fortunate to be chosen as the new CEO for King’s Daughters Medical Center, a good hospital that is now well on its way to being a great hospital.

We thought this would be a great place to live. And we were right! After living here for three months, both of my high school-age girls told me, “Daddy, we like it here better.” What an endorsement! This really is a caring community with a safe and family-friendly environment.

My perception of Brookhaven was and continues to be that this is a great small town that is “moving and shaking,” not content to be just another small town, but having the vision to be the best small town in Mississippi.

I cannot see how our community and schools will be improved because we have easier access to alcohol. Our economic development depends on site availability, good schools, available work force, a quality medical facility and quality of life – not easier access to alcohol.

Our family-friendly image that is well known across the state will not be enhanced by having easier access to alcohol.

I urge you to vote no on the alcohol issue.
