Brookhaven Academy Wins 9th straight game

Brookhaven Academy is on a roll. The Cougars ran their winning streak to 9 games Monday night, sweeping a doubleheader against Hartfield Academy in Harold Williams Ballpark. They posted 12-2 and 15-1 triumphs.
Earlier, the Cougars knocked off Bowling Green 13-3 Saturday and defeated Columbia Academy 9-2 Friday night to secure their fourth straight District 5-AA title.
Brookhaven Academy (13-8, 5-0) visits Bowling Green Thursday.
BA 12, Hartfield 2
Steven Williams (5K, 3BB) pitched the win over Hartfield, giving up 6 hits. Mathew Martin (1K, 2BB) suffered the loss.
A grand slam home run by Matthew Evans powered the Cougars. He accounted for 5 RBI.
Gage Posey and Williams also homered for the Cougars, collected 2 RBI apiece. Alex Smith and J.P. Jackson singled twice. Michael Fiorella doubled. Heath Hickman and Landon Nettles singled.
“Matthew, Gage and Steven had big home runs for us,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “Steven pitched well and our defense made the fundamental plays.”
Ryan Wesson doubled and singled for Hartfield. Two singles by Stephen Atkins added support. Sam Goff and Zach Claycomb singled.
BA 15, Hartfield 1
Michael Fiorella (1K, 1BB) scattered 3 hits and got the win in the nightcap. Corgan Green (2K, 2BB) was the losing hurler.
At the plate, Tanner Parvin doubled twice and collected 2 RBI for the Cougars. Posey singled twice and doubled, collected 3 RBI. Evans, Williams, Nettles, Hickman, Jackson and Newt Riley singled.
A double by Brewer Eldridge led Hartfield in batting. Gates Netterville and Brett Cloud singled.
BA 13, B. Green 3
Hickman (2K, 6BB) tossed the win over Bowling Green, allowing 3 hits. Devin Smith (5K, 4BB) was charged with the loss.
“Heath and Steve combined for a great effort on the mound,” said Coach Edwards. “Our guys played hard in some tough conditions.”
A home run and a double by Posey produced 4 RBI in the triumph as the Cougars plated 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Williams and Zach Dickerson singled twice. Evans, Parvin, Hickman, Jackson and Alex Smith singled.
The Buccaneers got singles from Arden Bird, Trent Ball and Thomas LeBlanc.
BA 9, Columbia 2
Dickerson (6K, 1BB) pitched the district title-clinching win for the Cougars. He allowed 3 hits.,
Devin McElroy (2K, 4BB) was the losing pitcher.
“Our first goal of the season was to win district,” said Edwards. “Zach was not 100 percent but he fought hard to give us a chance to win.”
Parvin homered and drove in 4 runs. Dickerson and Nettles each had 2-RBI singles. Smith singled twice. Hickman and Posey singled.
Columbia got singles from David Pounds, Wes Rauybourn and Dwane Redd.
