BHS girls roar past Ridgeland

Freshman pitcher Katherine Shell tossed a 2-hitter, Shelby Peavey hit an inside-the-park home run and Brookhaven Lady Panthers roared to a 16-4 Tuesday victory against the visiting Ridgeland Lady Titans in region 5A softball. Shell fanned 4 batters and walked 2 in the abbreviated, 4-inning game.
Coach Chad Walker’s Lady Panthers (10-7, 3-1) visit McComb Thursday for a region showdown. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.
Two singles apiece by Taylor Murray, Katie Grace Culpepper and Destiny Trevillion directed the BHS attack. Christen Benson doubled. Alycen Speaks, Shelby Case and Shell hit safely as the Lady Panthers plated 10, second-inning runs to build a 14-2 lead.
