Pearl River sweep Co-Lin Wolfpack

POPLARVILLE – The Pearl River Community College Wildcats swept a South Division doubleheader from the Co-Lin Wolfpack, taking the opener 6-2 and coming from four runs down to take the nightcap 7-6. Pearl River shares the South Division with an 11-5 record and is 29-10 overall.

Pearl River 6, Co-Lin 2
The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Braxton Lee drew a leadoff walk from Co-Lin starter Tyler Simmons. Darius Knight was hit by a pitch. With one out, Krisjon Wilkerson reached on an error scoring Lee. Forrest Dungan’s RBI single plated Knight. Nathan Pugh reached on an error loading the bases. Kyle Dolan’s sacrifice fly to right field allowed Wilkerson to score giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
The Wolfpack closed the gap to 3-1 in the fourth inning. Dylan Anglin reached on an error. Caleb Dugas singled to center, scoring Anglin.
Pearl River added three more runs in the fifth inning. Lee singled to left field and advanced to second on Knight’s fielder’s choice bunt. Wilkerson sent a Simmons pitch over the left field fence for a 3-run home run, pushing the Wildcat lead to 6-1.
Co-Lin’s Ryan Young drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on Gabe Wilson’s ground out. Milton Griffin reached on an error that allowed Young to score, closing the gap to 6-2.
Jake Brumfield got the win for Pearl River. He allowed one run over six innings, struck out four, walked one, and gave up seven hits. Rayborn pitched the seventh, allowing one run, no hits, and walking one.
Simmons took the loss for the Wolfpack. He allowed four earned runs, scattered four hits, struck out three and walked three in six innings of work.
Dungan had a pair of singles and one RBI for the Wildcats. Wilkerson had a home run and four RBI.
For Co-Lin, Gabe Wilson, Anglin and Smith had a pair of singles.
Pearl River 7, Co-Lin 6
Trailing 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wildcats rallied for five runs to take a 7-6 win. Darien Brown drew a walk to lead off the inning. Braxton Lee followed with a single to right field. The runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Kollin Cannon drew a walk to load the bases.
Co-Lin starter Caleb Dugas walked Paul Pickerrell, scoring Brown. Wilkerson’s 2-RBI single to center pulled the Wildcats to 6-5. Dungan delivered an RBI double to right field to tie the game at 6-all. Reliever Casey Hurley intentionally walked Nathan Pugh to load the bases.
Derek Martin delivered the game-winning single to center plating Wilkerson and giving Pearl River the 7-6 come back win.
The Wolfpack jumped on starting Wildcat pitcher Bubba Stockstill for three runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Milton Griffin reached on an error. Gabe Wilson followed with a single to right field. Matt Smith drew a walk to load the bases. Catcher Jonathan Santana hit into a double play, but Griffin was able to score. Wilson scored on Julio Rivera’s single to left field. Dugas followed with a single. Christopher Perry delivered an RBI single to left to put the Wolfpack up 3-0.
Dungan delivered a 2-run RBI double to right field to close the Co-Lin lead to 3-2.
Philip Lott drew a led off with a walk in the second inning. With one out, Wilson walked. Smith’s RBI single to left field increased the Co-Lin lead to 4-2.
After two scoreless innings, the Wolfpack added a single run in the fifth. Wilson drew a lead off walk. Dugas hit a sacrifice fly to score Wilson to give the Wolfpack a 5-2 lead.
In the sixth, shortstop Ryan Young drew a leadoff walk. With two outs, Wilson walked. Smith drilled a double to left field to plate Young to increase the Wolfpack lead to 6-2.
Dugas took the loss pitching six innings. He allowed six earned runs, seven hits, struck out four and walked six. Hurley pitched the seventh inning allowing one earned run, three hits, and walking one.
Stockstill pitched 1.1 innings giving up one earned run, scattering four hits, and walking three. Also seeing action were Bradley Rayborn (1H, 1BB, 2.2 innings) and Cameron Reynolds (1ER, 1H, 1BB). Ryan Deemes got the win allowing one earned run, two hits, and two walks in three innings of work.
At the plate for the Wolfpack, Smith went 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of singles (2 RBIs). Wilson, Rivera (1RBI), Dugas (1RBI), Perry singled (1RBI), and Young added a single apiece.
For Pearl River, Dungan continued his hot hitting with a double and a single (3 RBIs). Lee and Brown (RBI) added a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Knight (1RBI), Pickerrell (1RBI), Wilkerson (2RBIs), and Derek Martin.
