Calcote wins shot put, discus for Brookhaven

PEARL – Strong man Chris Calcote carried the Brookhaven Panthers in the Region 6-5A Track Meet with a pair of first place finishes in the shot put and discus. Calcote heaved the shot 48 feet, 11 inches and tossed the discus 144-08 as the Panthers finished third in team points.

The Lady Panthers failed to win a first place but they got seconds from Jamese Robinson in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs, Jerricka Wilson in the 100 meter dash, Waverli Culver in the long jump, Fredericka Fairman in the high jump and Diamond Herring in the triple jump.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Region 5A-3A Meet this Saturday at Pearl. Field events begin at 11 a.m., followed by the track events at 1:30 p.m.

Pearl’s girls and boys dominated the region team points race. McComb was runner-up in both divisions and Brookhaven was third. The Panthers and Lady Panthers are coached by Darien Dorsey and Freda Craft.
