Funeral services for Mary Sue Lamb Commander will be on Saturday, April 27. Visitation will begin at noon, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. The visitation and the funeral service will be held in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, Brookhaven. The graveside service will be at Riverwood Memorial Park. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Sue Lamb Commander was born in Laurel on Jan. 6, 1916 to Annie Floyd Tatum and John Hulon Lamb. She was a graduate of Laurel High School, Whitworth College, and Millsaps College. She moved to Brookhaven from Memphis, Tenn. with her husband and three girls in 1950.

She was a member of the Lion’s Club and Beta Sigma Phi, as well as other local civic organizations and clubs. She was active at First United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board, missions committees, and as president of the United Methodist Women. She used her talents in the First United Methodist Church Choir and regularly attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Willard Marcus Commander; two daughters, Patsy Commander Vaughan and Mildred Ann Commander Herring, and son-in-law, James Herring; her grandson, James Robert “Robbie” Herring; her brother, Dr. John Robert Lamb, and sister-in-law, Dr. Katherine Lamb; her sister, Virginia Lamb Fraysur, and brother-in-law, Dr. Marion Fraysur.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Carol Commander Trantham, and husband, Cecil G. Trantham Jr., of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Kevin Marcus Trantham and wife, Beth, Tatum Matthew Trantham, Charles Marcus Vaughan and Susanah Lauren Vaughan; her great grandchildren, Anna Catherine Trantham, Jon Tatum Trantham and Lynsie Grace Small; her nephews, Rusty Fraysur, and wife, Jennifer, and Gene Commander, and wife, Wally; her nieces, Anna Katherine Lamb Williamson, Susan Fraysur Ament and husband, Rob, and Kathleen Commander Torbensen; her son-in-law, Howard Vaughan; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
