May wins medalist honors; Co-Lin rallies to take second

PHILADELPHIA – Co-Lin’s Corbin May fired a final round 67 to capture medalist honors in the NJCAA Region 23 Golf Tournament held at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club and hosted by East Central Community College. May, who started the day in second place, shot a two-day total of 4-under par 73-67–140.

May, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound sophomore from Saltillo, qualifies for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament that will be held May 21-24 at the Goose Pond Colony Golf Club in Scottsboro, AL.

“Corbin had a pretty stellar performance,” said Co-Lin golf coach Ronny Ross. “He’s just at a little different level than the other kids. His focus and work ethic is a notch higher.”

Opening round leader Brannon Dykes of Jones County shot 70 the first day but finished second at 149 after firing a 79 in the final round. Jake Pritchard of Gulf Coast finished third at 76-75 -151, followed by Shelby Patterson of East Central 74-78 – 152 and Miles Respess of East Mississippi. 76-76 – 152.

Co-Lin’s Alex Clark finished tied for 15th at 163 85-78, followed by Connor Barnes 83-81–164 and Austin Schillaci 83-81– 164, and Chad Arseneault at 90-91-181.

Mississippi Gulf Coast took its sixth Region 23 title shooting 615 (311-304). The Wolfpack came from fourth place to finish second at 631 (324-307).

Rounding out the field were East Central at 634 (312-322), Northwest Mississippi at 637 (329-308) and East Mississippi at 639 (323-316).
