Josephine ‘Sister’ Collins Peters

Funeral services for Josephine “Sister” Collins Peters of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery. R.E. Tyler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Saturday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Peters, 89, died April 28, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson. She was born in Brookhaven on July 28, 1923 to James Collins and Hattie Norwood Collins.
She retired from the Orleans Parrish School System in New Orleans after 26 years. She graduated from Alexander High School in Brookhaven and attended Jackson State University, the University of New Orleans and Southern University of New Orleans.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Enos Williams Peters Sr.; brothers, Simmie Collins, Luther Collins, James Edward Collins, Nathanial Collins and John Henry Collins; and her sisters, Josie Mae Collins Holland, Minnie Collins Johnson and Lula Mae Collins Reed.
Survivors are her son, E. Williams Peters and wife, Lorraine, of Lititz, Pa.; daughter, Julie Peters of Brookhaven; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Collins Sanders of Brookhaven; and a host of other relatives and friends.
