Various vendors and nurseries from across the state will be on site showcasing their camellias, orchids, birdhouses and everything else garden related.

Tours will be given of a local nursery, a Mississippi State University experimental station and a plant that turns tree bark into various grades of mulch and soil, and a historic journey through downtown Brookhaven is also on the schedule.

Keynote speakers include various professors of horticulture and agriculture professionals as well as Lincoln County’s own Cindy Hyde-Smith, Mississippi commissioner of agriculture.

In conjunction with the state conference, the Lincoln County Master Gardeners will be hosting their annual Spring Garden Extravaganza with a presentation from Yvette Cutrer at 5 p.m. Tuesday titled: “The Making of a Living Wreath and Soil Polymers” as well as a presentation from Ava Jane Newell at 4 p.m. Wednesday titled: “Making a Hypertufa Pot.”

This is the first year Brookhaven has hosted the state conference, and Lincoln County Master Gardner Homer Richardson is optimistic about the benefits of its landing in the Homeseekers Paradise.

“We’re looking forward to all the folks coming to Brookhaven,” Richardson said. “If you see someone that looks like a master gardener, say hello, welcome them to Brookhaven and encourage them to come back.”

To earn the title of Master Gardener, one must complete 40 hours of required courses as well as a minimum of 40 hours of community service.

Whether you have achieved Master Gardner status or are just a novice grower, the event is open to everyone.
