To help celebrate Mississippi School of the Art’s 10th birthday, the MSA Alumni Association is hosting a carnival Saturday on campus.

. The event, which is open to the community as well as all current and past MSA students, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

MSAAA hopes the carnival will be a great success and will honor the partnership between the school and the community during the past 10 years, said the association’s president Phoenix McKissack.

“Brookhaven became a second home to me during my time at MSA, and I am so excited about this opportunity to celebrate both the school’s success and the community’s part in it,” said McKissack.

A number of activities are planned, including a dunking booth, inflatable obstacle course, slip and slide, cakewalk, toddler play area, face painting, cookout and bake sale.

Tickets and T-shirts will be on sale starting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

Tickets will be 50 cents each, with armbands available for $15. Toddler area armbands will be $5.

The association hopes to see an outpouring of community support and to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, McKissack said.

The carnival, which is MSAAA’s first major fundraiser, will be sponsored in part by Mississippi Ice Cream Factory, Brookhaven Printing, state Sen. Sally Doty, B&O Machine and Welding, Brookhaven Graphics and Mr. Charley’s Fun Jumps.

The money raised from the event will go towards furthering the association’s goals of helping the alumni’s alma mater and its current and past students with scholarships, grants and connections.
