Funeral services for Charles B. Smith Jr. of Gulfport, formerly of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, at Harrigill Funeral Home, with burial in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 88, died May 16, 2013 at Garden Park Medical Center in Gulfport. He was born in Lincoln County on May 24, 1924 to Charles Butler Smith and Lena McClelland.

He was a retired meter reader for Entex Co. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed backyard gardening, imitating bird calls, puttering in the garage and watching fireflies on summer evenings. He was especially fond of the plate lunch specials at Piggly Wiggly.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Nellie Mae Nations Smith; and sisters, Rita M. Watson, Ruby L. Musick, Helen Fowler and Elsie Smith.

Survivors are his daughter, Tammy Melissa Smith, of Gulfport; brother, James August Smith, of Brookhaven; and sisters, Frances Allred, of Brookhaven, and Lanell Bachtell, of Tatum, Texas.
