Jackie B. Britt, 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the State Veterans Nursing Home in Jackson. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home, Jackson, and Friday, May 31, from 1 until 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Brookhaven. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Britt was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 22, 1922 to the late Alice Minton Britt and Bennie F. Britt. He became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and returned there when he moved back to the area. He was stationed in Fresno, Calif. with the C.C.C.’s and served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II. After being discharged in 1946, he began working at Cowen Motor Company, Wesson, and later worked for many years at Illinois Central Railroad in Jackson. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and after moving back to Wesson, traveling in his RV was another hobby.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Jacqueline Patterson; his first wife, Mary Allen; brothers M.D., Burdette and Charles; sisters, Myrtice Thomas, Edith Presley and Ruby Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marie Mixon Britt; granddaughter, Lindsay Patterson, of Culver City, Calif.; two great grandsons, Brendan and Adam; brother, David B. Britt (Bobbie), of Brandon; sister, Anita Britt Entrican (Doc), and sister-n-law, Janie Britt, of Brookhaven, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
