Computers keep up with stat leaders

In this computer-minded society, methods of compiling sports statistics are becoming more in depth. iPads are as common as scorebooks in the dugouts, gathering information on each player, either in the field or at the plate.
The Daily Leader’s 2013 All-Area Fastpitch Softball Team is stacked with talented players and they have plenty of statistics to describe their accomplishments.
Here’s a scan of accomplishments at the plate.
Adrienne Wallace, a senior catcher from Bogue Chitto, batted . 376 this season. She also is the school’s valedictorian and has signed a scholarship with Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
Sam Lee, a Lawrence County senior catcher, batted .365 for Coach Meleah Howard’s Lady Cougars.

Brianna McKenzie, a senior catcher from North Pike, batted .365 for Coach Sonya Wallace’s Lady Jaguars.
Kamryn Vanlandingham, a sophomore catcher for Coach Terry Bauer’s Lady Colonels, batted .487. She drove in 36 runs, collected 7 homers and 25 extra-base hits.
Taylor Murray, a freshman shortstop for Coach Chad Walker’s Ole Brook Lady Panthers, batted .484 and stole 14 bases.
Taylor Nelson, a senior second baseman for Coach Steve Sasser’s Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers, batted .436.
Savannah Johnston, a senior shortstop for North Pike, batted .485. She has signed with Co-Lin.
Mattie Avants, a junior shortstop for Coach Scott Leggett’s Lady Cats, batted .417 this season.
Shelby Peavey, a senior infielder for Ole Brook, batted .356. She has signed with Meridian Community College.
Hannah Smith, a senior outfielder for Coach Jan Delaughter’s Loyd Star Lady Hornets, batted .456.
Kristen Byrd, a senior, batted .435 for Lawrence County.
Alexis Givens, a junior, batted .337 and joined Avants in the Class 1A-2A-3A All-Star Softball Game last weekend.
Morgan Webb, a freshman, batted .467 for Parklane.,
Elizabeth Smith, a freshman pitcher, compiled a 20-5 record for Lawrence County.
Brianna Bass, a senior, batted .418 for Parklane. She has signed a scholarship with William Carey University.
Sarah Robinson, a junior, batted .312 for Wesson and played in the Class 1A-2A-3A All-Star Game.
Shelby Case, a senior, batted .309 for Brookhaven. She has signed with Meridian CC.
Katherine Shell, a freshman, compiled a 10-7 pitching record for Ole Brook. She batted .309.
Breean Talbert, a senior, batted .376 for Coach Cody Hall’s Region 6-5A McComb Lady Tigers.
Hannah Moak, a junior southpaw pitcher, batted .321 for Parklane.
Christen Benson, a senior, batted .299 for Ole Brook. She has signed a scholarship with East Central Community College.
Bentley Sills, a junior, batted .396 for Coach Andrew Redd’s West Lincoln Lady Bears. She drove in 27 runs.
