As calls go, Corey Dickerson got the one he’s been dreaming of Thursday night when the Colorado Rockies called up the slugger for a promotion to their Major League Baseball club.

“It still hasn’t hit me yet, but I know it will later today,” said Dickerson. He will arrive in Washington at 2:30 this afternoon for today’s game between the Rockies and Nationals at 4.

“I’m just ready to get there,” said Dickerson. “This is a moment I’ve dreamed of all my life.”

Dickerson’s promotion comes on the heels of a historic season he’s been having in Triple-A, where he led all of minor league baseball in batting average (.386), triples (13), and doubles (19) in 65 games played. He’s also hit nine homers.

“It’s been a fun year,” added Dickerson, who was named Rockies Spring Training MVP in March. “I hope to help the Rockies anyway I can now, too.”

Colorado drafted Dickerson three years ago in the 8th Round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Colorado had previous drafted him in the 29th Round of the 2009 MLB Draft.

“The Rockies are a first class organization,” said Dickerson. “They do things right.”

A 2008 Brookhaven Academy product from Summit, Dickerson has always been best known for his hitting everywhere he goes. He also played for Meridian Community College.

“He’s the natural” said Dickerson’s former high school coach, Stephen Cooksey. “He can flat-out hit and play the game of baseball.”

Dickerson played for the Class AA Tulsa Drillers last season. He started last season at Modesto, Calif. after leading Class A Ashville, N.C. in home runs in 2011.

The Rockies are holding down fourth place in the National League’s West Division with a 37-37 record.
