Law officers seeking escapee in county

     Law enforcement officials are currently in pursuit of an escaped inmate in Lincoln County.

     According to Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames, Danny Joe Reid, 36, escaped from roadside work detail in Lawrence County earlier today.

     After getting in a vehicle with a woman Thames described as Reid’s girlfriend, the two fled west into Lincoln County where they were stopped by a deputy near East Lincoln Road and Highway 184.

     The woman was apprehended on the scene, but Reid escaped into nearby woods, Thames said.

     Reid is described as being six feet, one inch in height and weighing 155 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt and khaki shorts when last seen.

     As of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials including Lincoln and Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies, Mississippi Department of Transportation officers, Brookhaven police and Southwest Mississippi Narcotics Agents were searching the area, including parts of Nola Road.

     Thames said bloodhounds from Washington Parish Louisiana were brought to assist in the search.
