AL wins AAA District 6

     The Lincoln County Americans came back strong and beat the McComb all-Stars 5-2 Saturday night in Game 3 of the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA District Six series at Keystone Park. Dylan Carter handcuffed the visitors with a 2-hitter, striking out 3 and walking 1.

     Both teams advance to the state tournament at Magee, starting July 19.

     “We got throttled the first game but we came back and won two close games,” said American coach Hugh Fortenberry. “Our kids gave a good effort.”

     The Americans played Wayne County Friday night at 8.

    

 AL 5, McComb 2 

     A double by John Allbritton and 2 singles by Gage Brown powered the Lincoln Countians. Piker Wallace, Luke Davis, Colin Waldrop, Jemario Hersey, Dylan Reeves and Tyler Fortenberry singled.

     Cade Rush (2K, 2BB) was saddled with the setback.

     McComb got a double from Grantham. Bradley Whittaker singled.

 AL 9, McComb 8

     The Americans rode the strong right-arm of Tyler Fortenberry in a narrow 9-8 Saturday victory over the McComb All-Stars. The win tied the best-of-three Dixie Youth AAA District Six series at 1-1 after McComb had won 12-4 Friday night at McComb.

     Fortenberry struck out 8 batters and walked 3 in the victory.

     McComb’s Andrew Durr (5K, 3BB) started on the mound and was replaced by Kody Jenkins (2K, 3BB) who sustained the loss. McComb took a 4-2 lead in the top of the second inning before Lincoln County rallied.

     The Americans tied the score at 4-4 with a 2-run third. They plated 4 more runs in the bottom of the fourth and led 8-6. They pushed home the eventual winning run in the fifth.

     At the plate, Dylan Carter led the Americans with 3 singles. Colin Waldrop doubled and singled. Jacob Smith, Luke Davis and Gage Brown singled.

     McComb scored twice in the top of the sixth but came up short.

     Two singles apiece by J.P Jackson and Jenkins led McComb’s attack. Jessie Smith doubled. Triston Buffington, Cade Rush, Josh Henderson and Bradley Whitaker singled.

 McComb 12, AL 4

     Carter took the loss. He went 3 innings and gave up 10 hits, fanning 2 and walking 2. Hersey (1K, 3BB)relieved him in the fourth. Hersey hit 1 batter.

     Henderson (8K, 1BB) was the winning pitcher in 5 innings. He allowed 8 hits.

     Waldrop, Fortenberry and Carter each went 2-for-3. Albritton and Smith doubled. Wallace singled.
