“It is good to get the first win of the season,” said Parklane coach Steve Sasser. “Hanna Moak pitched an outstanding game. Brookhaven Academy has a good ball club and they are well coached. I expect the Lady Cougars will have a great season.”

The Lady Cougars (0-1) resume action Monday as they host the Hillcrest Lady Cougars in doubleheader varsity matchup, starting at 4 p.m.

Parklane 13, Brookhaven 0

The Lady Pioneers came out strong in the opening inning and set the tone of the game as freshman shortstop Taylor Murray smashed a 3-run home run over the left field fence to give Parklane a 4-0 lead. Murray transferred from Brookhaven High to Parklane this summer.

The Pioneers managed to increase their lead to 8-0 after one inning of action.

Parklane continued their aggressive onslaught in the fourth inning. They increased their lead to 13-0 after right-fielder Kymberli McDowell belted 3-run home run to help enforce the mercy rule.

Moak was the winning pitcher for the Lady Pioneers. Mikeale Smith saw some action in the bottom of the fourth and collected one strikeout and one walk.

McDowell powered the Lady Pioneers at the plate with a home run and a double. Carrington Jefcoat and Destini Brown contributed a double and a single each. Murray ripped a home run. Hitting safely were Morgan Webb, Mikaela Smith, Kaylin Coney and Lana Moak.

“Taylor Murray and Kymberli McDowell hit the ball really well and set the tone early to finish strong,” continue Sasser. “We still have a lot of things to work on to get ready for our tough division.

“I also saw a lot good things for Brookhaven. They made some big defensive plays during the contest and fought hard to stay in the game.”

Alli Livingston suffered the setback for the Lady Cougars with no strikeouts and three walks. Olivia Lofton (0K, 0BB) pitched in relief.

Catcher Anna Smith and third baseman Maura Dunaway were the offensive leaders for Brookhaven Academy with a single apiece.

“This was a tough loss to begin the season,” said BA coach Kaylin Lofton. “Overall, I was pleased with our effort and defensive play. Hopefully, this game will help motivate us to get better before we start our district play.”

In JV action, Parklane hammered Brookhaven Academy 7-1.

Abby Smith tossed the win for the Lady Pioneers with three strikeouts and three walks. Anna Grace Covington absorbed the setback for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and five walks.

Shelby Siebert was the offensive leader for Parklane with a triple. Lauren Wallace provided a double.

Jessica Wallace, Taylor Sanford and Maura Dunaway directed Brookhaven Academy with a single apiece.
