Funeral services for David Wayne Smith of Wesson are 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Smith, 53, died Aug. 2, 2013 at his home. He was born in Mississippi on July 11, 1960.
He was a retired administer of Copiah County Schools and a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Smith was a member of Wesson’s Lions Club and reinstated and led Wesson’s Boy Scout Troop 125. He was MACJC Women’s Softball Coach of the Year at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and the Mt. Zion Baptist Church National Championship softball pitcher in 1989.
Preceding him in death was his infant brother, Richard Todd Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Ramona Higdon Smith; parents, John C. “J.C.” Smith and Peggy Haynes Smith; son, Justin David Smith and friend, Lauren Alford; daughter, Lauren Smith Langham and husband, Joseph; brothers, Johnny Smith and Darrell Smith; sister, Dianne Smith Watson and husband, Bob; two grandchildren, Joleigh Elizabeth Langham and Levi David Langham; three nieces, six nephews and two great-nieces.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund.
