CLINTON – Under nearly picture-perfect weather conditions, the Brookhaven Panthers and Clinton Arrows met Friday night in the Clinton Jamboree at Arrow Field.

Defenses set the tone throughout the evening with a lot of hard knocks from both squads, with both offenses moving in spurts.

“Usually during this time of year, defenses are ahead of the offenses,” said Ole Brook head coach Tommy Clopton.

“Usually by the time a team moves into the meat of their region schedule, they should be clicking on all cylinders.”

Jamboree rules permitted each team to run 12 consecutive plays on offense, then 12 on defense. After the first set, there was an intermission break; where both teams went through simulated special team activities.

No score was kept on the scoreboard.

The Panthers got the lone touchdown of the scrimmage when quarterback Fred Truvillion found his younger brother, Javontae Trevillion, on a 42-yard touchdown pass. He outran Clinton’s defense and performed an acrobatic flip across the goal line. Jonathan Martinez tacked on the PAT kick with 7:43 left in the second quarter.

Following an interception by defensive back Kardell Clark, Brookhaven used all 12 plays to move 70 yards.

“We executed well in spurts,” commented Clopton. “We still have a lot of work to do between now and next Friday.”

Clopton’s Panthers kick off the 2013 season on Aug. 23, traveling to Meadville to take on the Franklin County Bulldogs. Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.

“The No. 1 goal for tonight was that we came out of this healthy,” continued Clopton. “I saw some good things and some things we need to work on.”
