Local man is injured in one-vehicle crash

A Brookhaven man was injured in a single-vehicle collision at 8:28 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, on Highway 84 at Breckinridge Lane in Lincoln County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

A 2006 GMC Pickup, driven by Kyle F Hoeniges, 19, of 464 Felps Lane S.W., was west bound on Highway 84, troopers said.

The vehicle ran off the north side of the roadway, ran over a mailbox and two driveways before colliding with an embankment and becoming airborne; upon landing the vehicle collided a culvert, troopers said.

Hoeniges was not wearing an occupant restraint and suffered severe injuries, troopers noted. He was transported by ambulance to Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital in Hazlehurst before being airlifted to University Medical Center in Jackson.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, according to SFC. B.R. “Rusty” Boyd public affairs officer for Troop M of the Highway Patrol.
