Lawrence Co. girls trample Franklin Co.

ROXIE-The Lawrence County Lady Cougars hammered the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 20-0 in slowpitch softball action Tuesday night. Coach Meleah Howard’s girls scored 2 runs in the first, then exploded for 11 in the top of the second to put the game away.

Lawrence County banged out 21 hits in improving to 3-0 on the young season. First baseman Jazmin Thomas, the Lady Cougars’ lone senior, led the way with 4 hits. Alexsundria Thomas, Jamie Martin, and Barri Rogers each added 3 hits. Rogers was the winning pitcher, working 5 shutout innings. The Lady Cougars followed up their 11-run second inning with 7 more runs in the third.

Franklin County was led by Macy Brabham, who went 3-for-3 in the game. The Lady Bulldogs’ best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the fourth, when they loaded the bases with no outs. However, Rogers and her defense preserved the shutout with a fielder’s choice force out at home, and 2 infield pop-ups.

Junior Varsity Results

Lawrence County also won in junior varsity play, 11-5. Julianna Johnson, Abbie Errington, Kaitlin Wallace, Alyssa Lambert, and Tiera Collins each had 2 hits for the LCHS jayvees.

Tab Thompson led Franklin County with 2 hits.

Lawrence County will next be in action Thursday afternoon at Hazlehurst.
