The West Lincoln Lady Bears provided an offensive and defensive clinic Thursday night and shut out the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 13-0 in slowpitch softball action.

“We hit the ball really well offensively,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We also looked really good defensively. The girls are doing a great job changing over to slowpitch after playing fast pitch softball all summer.”

The Lady Bears (3-1) return to action Tuesday. They visit McComb to battle the McComb Lady Tigers. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6.

The Lady Bulldogs (2-4) will also be in action Tuesday. Franklin County invades Vicksburg to take on the Warren Central Lady Vikings. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

West Lincoln and Franklin County softball fans gathered to watch a tough contest between two competitive schools.

The Lady Bears came out strong and set the tone of the game in the second inning by taking a 3-0 lead.

West Lincoln continued to be aggressive on offense as they increased their lead to 13-0 between the third and fourth innings to enforce the mercy rule.

Franklin County committed seven errors in the game, while the Lady Bears had one error.

Heather Moak was the winning pitcher for West Lincoln with two strikeouts and no walks.

Shelly Case suffered the setback for the Lady Bulldogs with no strikeouts and three walks.

Senior left-center fielder Destiny Allen provided the offensive spark to direct the Lady Bears with a home run, a double and a single. Layton Sills contributed a double. Malori Hall, Addie Spring and Alli Mullins hit safely.

Franklin County was lead on offense with singles from Alyssa Case, Hayle McKinney, Sophie Cothren and Emilee Wallace.

“We did not come ready to play,” said Franklin County coach Dana Smith. “We were not focused on the game and did not play to our potential.”

In JV action, West Lincoln defeated Franklin County 8-4.

Makennah Redd tossed the win for the Lady Bears with two strikeouts and two walks.

Anna Brooke Davis was the offensive leader for West Lincoln with two doubles. Katelyn Travis and Redd provided a triple each. Cadie Maxwell and Millane Lewis hit safely.

Jaleshia Bethley, Caleigh Corban and Ti’Mara Mackey directed the Lady Bulldogs with two singles apiece. Emily Smith had a double. Hitting safely were Kenzie Whitehead, Emilee Wallace and Tabitha Thompson.
