The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars provided some excitement Tuesday night in fastpitch softball action. The Lady Cougars rallied from behind in the seventh inning to defeat the Amite School Center Lady Rebels 4-3 on Cougar Field.

In Monday night action, The Lady Cougars suffered their first loss in the district as Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels prevailed 7-3.

BA (4-12, 2-1) has the rest of the week off to enjoy the Labor Day holiday before returning to action Sept. 7. They will be participating in Co-Lin’s annual softball tournament. Games and times have not been set.

BA 4, ASC 3

Brookhaven Academy fought hard defensively against ASC to keep the game close as the Lady Rebels led 2-1 after six innings of action.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Cougars – refusing to give up – managed to rally back into the contest with key hits and three runs for the win.

Alli Livingston was the winning pitcher for BA with one strikeout and no walks. She came in during the fifth inning in relief. Alex Rai Smith (0K, 4BB) started for the Lady Cougars.

Olivia Thornton and Amanda Rushing were the offensive leader for BA with a double each. Anna Smith, Maura Dunaway and Allyson Barry hit safely.

“This was an exciting game,” said BA coach Kaylin Lofton. “The girls fought hard until the very end and did not give up. Overall, I was very pleased with the girls’ effort.”

ACCS 7, BA 3

Taylor Perkins was the winning hurdler for ACCS with three strikeouts and one walk.

Livingston suffered the setback for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and three walks.

Livingston paced BA’s offense with a home run and a double. Thornton contributed a double. Hitting safely were Amanda Rushing, KK Jordan and Dunaway.

“We cannot wait until late in the game to start hitting,” said Lofton. “We had one inning that if we could take away the game may have turned out differently.”

Anna McDaniel led the offensive charge for the Lady Rebels with two singles. Ashleigh Williams, Michaela Ashley and Bailey Boyd had a double each. Tori Laird, Lexie Emmauel and Perkins hit safely.
