BC cruises past Enterprise

Senior running back Jermaine Blackwell rushed for 176 yards on 14 carries and had three touchdowns as the Bogue Chitto Bobcats roared pasted the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 40-16 in the annual Black Out Bowl Thursday night on Harry Cole Field. The Bobcats rolled up 411 yards on offense.

“Glad to get the win,” said BC Coach Gareth Sartin. “Overall, we had too many turnovers. We need to take better care of the ball.

“Enterprise came ready to play and fought hard,” continued Sartin. “We still have a lot of things to improve as we prepare for our first district test next week.”

Bogue Chitto (2-0) and Enterprise (0-2) came out strong in the first quarter as they battled back-and-forth in the hard-fought contest.

The Bobcats managed to get their offense going late in the first quarter, when senior quarterback Brock Roberts powered through to score the first touchdown of the game on a two-yard run with 6:38 left. Cameron Price was four-for-four on extra points for the night.

In BC’s second scoring drive, Blackwell helped increase the Bobcats’ lead in the first quarter with a six-yard run with 3:45 remaining.

In the second quarter, BC and Enterprise continued to be aggressive on the field as the Jackets fought hard to the close of the game.

The Bobcats managed to cash in another touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half, when Roberts connected with senior wide receiver Dennis Rogers on a 14-yard pass with 0:44 remaining. BC led 21-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Bogue Chitto continued their scoring onslaught, when Blackwell plowed through for a four-yard touchdown with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, BC increased their lead by two more touchdowns before turning on the cruise control to secure the win.

Blackwell scored his final touchdown on the night, when he broke loose and sprinted 75 yards to pay dirt with 10:30 remaining.

Damien Terrell punched in BC’s final points of the game. He scramble for a 7-yard touchdown with 6:36 remaining.

Enterprise, refusing to give up, managing to break up Bogue Chitto’s shutout late in the fourth quarter. Senior running back Jackson Cole put the Jackets on the scoreboard with a 12-yard run with a one minute remaining. Jake Case ran in the two-point conversion.

On the next possession. Enterprise’s special team recovered an onside kick on the kickoff to set up another scoring drive.

Junior quarterback Austin Coleman helped the Jackets score their final points with a three-yard run with 28 seconds left. Cole punched in the two-point conversion.

“I am extremely proud of the way the kids played,” said Enterprise coach Brooks Burns. “They played aggressive on both sides of the ball. Coach Josh Thibodeaux had a great defensive game plan and the guys did a good job executing. Bogue Chitto had to earn everything, and they did.”

Offensively, Roberts directed the Bobcats’ aerial attack, completing nine of 14 passes for 137 yards and one interception. He also added support on the ground with eight carries for 87 yards.

Rogers led all receivers with five catches for 90 yards. Terrell caught two passes for 40 yards.

Cole was the offensive leader for the Jackets with 19 rushes for 84 yards. Coleman contributed 30 yards on 10 carries.

Defensively, Jeremy Blackwell led BC with 14 tackles. Jermaine Blackwell and Terrell provided six stops apiece. Roberts had five tackles.

Dakota McGary recovered two fumbles for the Bobcats.

Enterprise defense had a good defensive game plan as they forced five BC turnovers.

James King, Layne Brown, Case and Cole recovered a fumble for the Jackets. Neil Ratcliff had an interception.

Bogue Chitto returns home to host Region 1A rival the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave for their first district test. Enterprise entertains the Puckett Wolves Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
