The Brookhaven Lady Panthers secured a split in a varsity slowpitch softball doubleheader Tuesday night at Ole Brook’s softball complex.

In Game One, the Lady Panthers remain undefeated in a Region 5-5A/6A race after clobbering the Callaway Lady Chargers 16-0 .

In Game Two, the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats cruise past Brookhaven 16-3 in the nightcap.

The Lady Panthers (6-6, 3-0) resume action Thursday. They host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

The Lady Cats (5-1) return home to host their Lincoln County rivals, the West Lincoln Lady Bears, Thursday. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

Brookhaven 16, Callaway 0

The Lady Panthers came out and overpowered the young Lady Chargers in three innings of work. Ole Brook out hit Callaway 12-2.

Alycen Speaks was the winning pitcher for Brookhaven with two strikeouts and no walks.

Keshunna Burnside suffered the loss for the Lady Chargers with one strikeout and two walks.

Sophomore third baseman Katherine Shell provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Panthers with a home run and a single. Danielle Batteast helped fuel the flames with a homerun. Julianna Porter contributed a pair of triples. Speaks had a triple and a double. Hitting safely were Tia Bussey, Jada Henderson, Chantel Quarles, Cheyenne Motley and Kat Wallace.

“Glad to get the win in district action,” said BHS coach Chad Walker. “The girls came out hitting the ball and played solid defense.”

Mercedes James and Cierra Hamilton were the top offensive leaders for Callaway (0-3, 0-2) with a single apiece.

“We are a very young team,” said first year head coach Nichelle Webb. “The girls are working hard everyday and showing a lot improvement. I was very pleased with their effort.

Bogue Chitto 16, Brookhaven 3

The Lady Cats conducted a hitting clinic in the top of the first inning as they hammered the Lady Panthers to take a 9-0 lead.

Ole Brook answered in the bottom of the first inning and trimmed into BC’s lead with two runs.

Bogue Chitto outscored Brookhaven 7-1 to force the mercy rule in five innings of action.

Brooke Myers pitched the win for the Lady Cats with three strikeouts and no walks.

Alycen Speaks absorbed the setback for the Lady Panthers with one strikeout and one walk.

“We came out and hit the ball really well,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “We must continue to keep it going.”

Sophomore third baseman Christian Black was the director in the hitting clinic for the Lady Cats with a home run and a single. Earlnesheia Dillon continued the onslaught with a four singles. Mallory Allen provided three singles. Colby Kirkland, Jaide McKinney and Terrah Nelson ripped a pair of singles apiece. Hitting safely were Alexis Givens, Alana Nettles and Myers.

Katherine Shell paced Ole Brook’s offense with a home run and a single. Haley Speaks, Jada Henderson and Julianna Porter hit safely.

“”Bogue Chitto came out hitting,” said Walker. “We just could not keep up with them with our bats.”
