Lady Cougars skin South Pike

MONTICELLO-The Lawrence County Lady Cougars handled South Pike in a Division 7-4A slow-pitch softball double-header Thursday night. In the first game, LCHS rolled to a 15-1 win in 4 innings. In game two, the Lady Cougars won, 16-0, in five innings.

With those wins, Meleah Howard’s girls stand at 7-0 entering Saturday’s Franklin County Classic. Lawrence County has outscored its opponents 88-15 in those seven wins. LCHS will take on host Franklin County and West Lincoln on Saturday.

In Thursday’s first game, Lawrence County jumped to a 4-1 lead after one inning, then scored 11 runs in the second, to put the game away. Madison Hyde, Lexie Johnson, and Alexsundria Thomas led the way with three hits each. Jamie Martin had two hits. Thomas drove in four runs, and Hyde drove in three.

In the late game, the Lady Cougars scored three in the first, four in the second, two in the third, and seven in the top of the fifth. South Pike was the home team in the second game.

Jamie Martin had three hits and five RBIs to lead the game-two win. Lexie Johnson also added three hits. Alyssa Pendergrass, Madison Hyde and Alexsundria Thomas each had two hits. MyNeka Frazier had three hits in the double-header to lead South Pike.
