The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Board of Trustees moved quickly to approve a number of items on the agenda Thursday night, including the hiring of two persons that have worked, or continue to work, in Brookhaven.

The board moved to rehire Jackie Martin, formerly the tech-prep coordinator and director of curriculum at Co-Lin, as dean of career, technical and workforce education at the Wesson Campus.

In the last year, Martin worked at the Brookhaven Technical Center, located next to Brookhaven High School. Martin left this position last week.

On a similar note, the board approved the employment of Brookhaven police officer Kevin Bryan Thompson, to work the night shift on the Wesson Campus/Co – Lin District effective Sept. 8. Thompson will remain a Brookhaven police officer and work at the Wesson campus part-time.

In other action at the Thursday meeting, vice president of business affairs, Michael Tanner provided a statement of revenues and expenditures for the months of July and August. Total revenue for the months came to $9,066,426, while total expenditures stood at $6,756,460, resulting in a fund balance of $2,309,966.

Also, the board approved the purchase of 26 separate items costing more than $5,000 each, resulting in the approval of $367,640 in total spending. The board approved the lowest – and only – bid on basketball uniforms and supplies.

The board moved to support Mississippi Electronic Libraries Online by approving a state grant from the Mississippi Community College Board for online learning in the amount of $240,000 for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

The board also approved a number of construction projects, including plans to build a new woman’s dormitory and renovation of the press box at Stone Stadium.

After receiving an inaccurate bid for a re-roofing project on the Youngblood building, the board moved to approve the next lowest bid on the project, which will result in restoration of the roof in the next 60 calendar days. The Mississippi legislature had appropriated special funds for repairs and renovation of the roof, according to the Co-Lin President Dr. Ronald E. Nettles.

Board member Steven Ammann abstained from the vote.

Nettles provided a report on appraisal of land adjacent to Co-Lin property at the meeting as well.

In a matter previously approved at an earlier board meeting, Nettles reported on the status of a new building for the Early Childhood Education Technology Program on the Wesson Campus.
