Springfield stomps Hornets

The Springfield, La., Bulldogs used their speed and athletic ability to stomp the Loyd Star Hornets 64-14 Friday night in Region 6-2A action at William E. “Sambo” Smith Field.

Seth Farmer managed to put the Hornets on the scoreboard in the first quarters with 78-yard kickoff return. Farmer finished two of two on the extra points.

Peyton Flowers scored Loyd Star’s final touchdown in the third quarter on a five-yard run.

Farmer was the offensive leader for Loyd Star, completing five of 16 passes for 66 yards. He also rushed for 35 yards on nine carries

Flowers directed the Hornets’ ground attack with eight rushes for 40 yards. Zac Arnold led all receivers with one catch for 25 yards.

Defensively, Flowers paced Loyd Star with 11 solo tackles and eight assists. Dustin Hart contributed seven solo stops and had five assists.

The Hornets are on the road next week. They travel down Highway 80 to Lake to battle the Lake Hornets. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
