North Pike wins two over Brandon

BRANDON – The North Pike Lady Jaguars swept the Brandon Lady Bulldogs in a varsity doubleheader Tuesday night in slowpitch softball action. The Lady Jags crushed the Lady Bulldogs 15-2 in the opener and won the second game 7-5.

The Lady Jags (10-2), coached by Sonya Wallace, invade Monticello to tangle with the Lawrence County Lady Cougars in a huge district matchup Thursday. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

The Lady Jags provided a hitting clinic in the opening contest to rout the Lady Bulldogs.

Linley Smith was the winning pitcher for North Pike with one strikeout and one walk.

Desiruth Nelson took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs with one strikeouts and four walks.

Senior Lauren Wells provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Jags with a home run and three singles. Linley Smith fueled the flames with a double and two singles. McKenzie Brock hit three singles. Sarah Brock and Allie Summer contributed a double and a single apiece. Jordan Fitzgerald doubled. Hitting safely were Madison Bigner, Jana McEwen and Rickera Martin.

Brittney Triplett and Anna Lewis paced Brandon’s offense with a double apiece. Madison Brown singled.

N. Pike 7, Brandon 5

The Lady Jags rallied in sixth and seventh innings to overcome Brandon’s lead to escape with a victory.

Whitney Howell tossed the win for the Lady Jags with no strikeouts and two walks.

Nelson absorbed the loss for the Lady Bulldogs with no strikeouts and three walks.

Wells continued her hot hitting streak to lead North Pike with a home run and a single. Madison Bigner provided a double and a single. McEwen contributed a pair of singles. Howell doubled. Danaraye Parks, Martin and Fitzgerald hit safely.

Bre Glenn was the offensive leader for the Lady Bulldogs with a homerun and a single. Megan Shepherd had two singles. Hitting safely were Madison Newman, Aidan Nichols, Rachel Franklin, Triplett and Nelson.
