Lady Cobras crush Richland

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras conducted a hitting clinic against Richland and crushed the Lady Rangers 13-1 Thursday night in slowpitch softball action.

“We did a lot better hitting the ball tonight,” said Wesson coach Jackie Johnson. “We still need to work hard and find a way to be more consistent at the plate.”

The Lady Cobras (9-4) resume action Saturday. They will be participating in Florence’s softball tournament. Wesson battles Pearl at 11:30 a.m. and Northeast Lauderdale at 1 p.m.

Wesson 13, Richland 1

The Lady Cobras managed to overcome three errors in a sluggish start of the first inning to hammer the young Lady Rangers and enforced the mercy rule in four innings of action.

Cheyenne Gladden was the winning pitcher for Wesson with no strikeouts and one walk.

Shelby Grantham suffered the loss for Richland with no strikeouts and one walk.

Senior third baseman Sarah Robinson provided the offensive spark to lead the Lady Cobras with a home run and two singles. Amber Brinson fueled the flames with three singles. Harmoni Ashley contributed a double and a single. Kayla Britt and Kaitlyn Smith provided a double apiece. Hitting safely were Bailey Middleton, Maddy Jones, Sabria Green, Aurianna Vaughn and Brooke Page.

Allie Rimes, Kayla Jenkins and Kerri Jordan were the top hitters for the Lady Rangers with a single apiece.

Richland (4-9) is coached by Katie Allen.

In JV action,  Wesson hammered Richland 11-2.

Sabria Green directed the Lady Cobras’ offense with a home run. Katie Westbrook and Brinson helped with a double and single apiece. Mary Beth Munn, Carrie McSweyn, Vaughn and Page hit safely.

Rimes paced the Lady Rangers at the plate with two singles. Abby Smith singled.
