WESSON – Homecoming Queen Elise Whittington and her court reigned supreme in the Wesson’s homecoming festivities, but the Cobras suffered from some bad Friday the 13th luck as the Seminary Bulldogs prevailed 38-19 Friday night at Stone Stadium.

“We are all disappointed with the loss,” said Cobra coach Ronald Greer. “Our guys are giving a good effort, but we just need to make more plays when given the opportunity. We did a very poor job of playing defense tonight and had too many penalties in the game. We have to keep working hard to right this ship.”

The Bulldogs started the game off by scoring on their first possession of the game when freshman Trevion Logan ran for the end zone to put the first points on the scoreboard. Kicker Tyler Charpentier made the extra point, bringing the score to 7-0 for the Bulldogs.

The Cobras managed to gain some momentum at the end of the first quarter, when junior Blake Burns recovered a fumble on a punt to put the Cobras within scoring range.

Quarterback Tyler Christmas made a pass play to junior wide receiver Dartavious Dixon in the end zone, but the officials called it back for a holding penalty. The Cobras did not let that stop their momentum, because Dixon scored on the next play and kicker CJ Viromontez made the extra point, bringing the score to 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Bulldogs’ junior Dontarius McLaurin managed to slip past Cobras’ defense for another touchdown, but Charpentier failed to make the extra point.

On Wesson’s next possession, junior wide receiver Farrod Green redeemed the Cobras by rushing to the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point was unsuccessful due to a bad snap, but the score was even 13-13.

Seminary’s junior Jamaal Booth ended the first half by maneuvering around the Cobra defense for a touchdown, and Charpentier made the extra point bringing the score to 20-13 at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs owned the third quarter with Logan and Booth scoring both Seminary’s touchdowns. Charpentier was unsuccessful on both of the extra point attempts as the Bulldogs lead 32-13 after three quarters of action.

In the fourth quarter, Bulldogs’ senior James Peyton added another touchdown to bring the score to 38-19 as Charpentier was unsuccessful again for the extra point.

The Cobras may have been defeated, but they were still determined to keep up the fight as junior Michael Hauer scored Wesson’s final touchdown in the last 10 seconds of the game, bringing the final score to 38-19 Bulldogs.

On offense, Tyler Christmas directed the Cobras, completing three of 16 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Lewis powered the ground game for Wesson with four rushes for 25 yards

Defensively, Lewis led the Cobras with eight tackles.

The Wesson Cobras travel to Pricedale Friday night to meet the North Pike Jaguars. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
