The St. Patrick Fighting Irish defeated the host West Lincoln Bears 10-0 Friday night on Perry Miller Field. The Biloxi-based Irish scored the game’s only touchdown in the second quarter for a 7-0 lead at halftime and held on for their victory of the season for coach Tom Thompson.

The Bears (0-3) were excited to be home for the first time this season, and football fans gathered to watch West Lincoln and St. Patrick battle in a tough defensive contest.

“This was a good ball game,” said West Lincoln coach Willie Brumfield. “The guys played extremely hard, and I was proud of their effort.

“We did a good job controlling the ball,” continued Brumfield. “We managed to work the ball inside the 10-yard twice, but costly mistakes kept us from scoring. St. Patrick has a very good ball club despite their record.”

West Lincoln mustered up a total of 153 yards on offense against the Fighting Irish defense.

Junior running back Javian Mackabee directed the Bears’ ground attack with 46 yards rushing on 13 carries. LaRontae Byrd contributed one carry for 30 yards. Sloan Nation helped with two carries for 20 yards.

Senior quarterback Jonah King led the aerial attack, completing three of 13 passes for 45 yards.

Bryce Temple was the top receiver with one catch for 25 yards. Ty Forman had two catches for 20 yards.

On defense, senior lineman Tyler Moak paced the Bears with 13 tackles. Jamin Conrad provided 10 stops. Luke Barrilleaux helped with eight tackles, and Bryce Temple had a fumble recovery.
