The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars managed to keep their postseason hopes alive with an impressive 7-6 win over the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels Monday night in District 2-AA fastpitch softball action at the Lady Cougars Softball Complex.

“This was a big win for us,” said BA coach Kaylin Lofton. “I am extremely proud of the girls. They fought hard in the last inning to rally back and to earn this win for our seniors on Senior Night. ”

The Lady Cougars (8-14, 4-3) are currently in second place in their district race. BA will be in action today as they visit Central Hinds for another big district matchup. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6:30.

BA’s softball fans, friends and family members gathered to celebrate Senior Night as the Lady Cougars recognized their only senior, Allyson Berry, with gifts and hugs.

The Lady Cougars came out hungry and quickly set the tone of the game as they secured a 4-1 lead after four innings of action.

The Lady Rebels rallied back in the fifth inning as first baseman Ashleigh Williams smashed a three-run home run to tie the contest at 4-all.

In the top of the sixth inning, ACCS claimed their first lead of the game by pushing across two runs for a 6-4 advantage.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, BA answered the Lady Rebels’ challenge and battled back into the contest by pushing two runs across the plate for a 6-all tie with one out.

With two outs in the sixth inning, BA pitcher Alli Livingston scored the winning run from third base on a delay steal of a pass ball.

Livingston was the winning hurdler for the Lady Cougars with no strikeouts and one walk.

Taylor Perkins suffered the loss for the Lady Rebels with one strikeout, five walks and two hit batters.

Livingston provided the offensive charge to lead BA with four doubles. Anna Brace Covington contributed two doubles. Maura Dunaway had a double.

Williams was the offensive leader for ACCS with a home run and a single. Jordan Petty provided a double and two singles. Anna McDaniel and Tory Laird hit a pair of singles. Perkins had a double. Brooke Runnells and Lexie Emmanuel hit safely.
