Funeral services for Nevada Gabriel “Sonny” Montgomery of Bogue Chitto are 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Easthaven Baptist Church, with burial in Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Monday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Mr. Montgomery, 79, died Sept. 12, 2013 at his home. He was born in Bogue Chitto on April 11, 1934 to Morris Montgomery and Laverne Moak Montgomery.

He graduated from Bogue Chitto High School and retired from Ingals Shipyard and Croft Metals as an electrician. Mr. Montgomery was a member of Easthaven Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Beverly Ruth Montgomery; parents; in-laws, Raymond and Ruth LeViere; son-in-law, Bruce Foster; and grandson, Daniel Foster.

Survivors are his son, David James Montgomery and wife, Cathy, of Crystal Springs; daughters, Debra Lynn Smith and husband, Stacey, and Brenda Sue Foster, all of Brookhaven; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Allen Smith, Leah Smith McGehee, Carrie Foster Luster, Jonathan Micah Smith, Matthew Ryan Foster, Michael Steven Foster, Ali Elizabeth Montgomery, Henry David Montgomery, Ruthie Nan Montgomery and Rosalie Rae Montgomery; six great-grandchildren, Braelynn Byrd, Ashlyn McGehee, Braxton Byrd, Memorie Smith, Lynnleigh McGehee and Olivia Luster; brother-in-law, Jim LeViere and wife, Sue; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Montgomery knew what mattered in life was first and foremost a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. His love for Jesus was evident in his sweet and loving spirit toward everyone he met. His gentleness, meekness and humbleness left an imprint on every person he encountered. His family was a priceless treasure to him, and he encouraged them to have a genuine faith in our Lord and Savior. Although he loved his life here on earth and spending time with his friends and family, he looked forward to the day he would see his Savior and be reunited with the love of his life, Beverly Ruth. He longed for her every day and when he spoke of her, which was daily, there was always a twinkle and a longing in his eyes. He is now with her, and they are worshipping at the feet of their Lord and Savior.

Memorials may be made to the Easthaven Baptist Church building fund.
