George E. Cowart, 85, of Brookhaven, passed away at his home on Sept. 17, 2013. He was born on Oct. 3, 1927, to Edgar Fenton Cowart and Myrtle Laird Cowart.

Services are Friday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service, with interment at Mt. Zion Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5 until 9 p.m. at Riverwood.

Mr. Cowart was a member of Antioch Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ernestine Beck Cowart; parents, Edgar and Myrtle Cowart; brother, James Clayton Cowart; and sister, Mayford Lynell Cowart.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Braud Cowart; sons, John E. Cowart and wife, Carla, and George R. Cowart and wife, Sherry; daughters, Ann Cowart Reeves and husband, Grady, and Tammy Cowart Nations and husband, Royce; sisters, Audrey Cowart Simmons and Sharon Cowart Myers; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
